Solon Security was founded in 1995 by John Fearnall, who introduced a new wholesale purchasing model for police forces, reducing costs and enabling collaborative product development focused on specific crime types.

Early initiatives made a significant impact, for example ‘Don’t Bother Kits’ helped cut vehicle theft and the ‘Memo-Minder’ supported a national bogus-caller campaign. These simple, targeted products helped forces focus resources where they were most needed.

As crime evolved, so did we. Working with the Home Office, we delivered the nationwide Locks for Pensioners programme, the largest crime prevention project of its kind and a blueprint for future public-sector initiatives.

Over the years, we’ve supported countless successful projects, from alcohol-awareness campaigns to supplying covert cameras to tackle bogus callers. Innovation remains central to our work. Our award-winning Defender Signal Blocker, originally developed for distraction-driving enforcement, has become a national tool against relay theft, now used by police, insurers and vehicle manufacturers.

Our Defender torch range began with the Defender Lumos, now used by the majority of UK police forces, and has developed into a full range of high-performance products shaped by customer feedback.

We maintain strong ties with Secured by Design to ensure many of our products undergo rigorous independent testing. Our products are used nationwide to support safer homes, communities and workplaces.
